What God Did

And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:6-9 NIV

In Ephesians 2:6-9. Paul continue to share the good news of Jesus Christ.  In these passages, it’s important to see who takes the initiative in the relationship.

Paul emphasize what God did in the work of salvation.

Let’s take a look at the list.  What God did (Verses 6-9)

  • God made us alive with Christ
  • God saved us by His grace
  • God raised us up with Christ.
  • God shows His incomparable riches and grace.
  • God expresses His kindness to us in Christ Jesus.
  • God saves us through faith.

If you ever feel like you aren’t good enough for God’s approval, or if you feel you cannot earn God’s favor – you are absolutely right!  God’s favor and grace in your life is not because of how good you are or what you deserve.  It is entirely based on God’s Works and God’s character.

No one can boast of their greatness – because no one’s salvation is found in his or her own behaviors.  No one can boast of being more deserving of God’s favor or approval.

Our relationship with God is not something we deserve or earn.  That would make it a salary.  Our relationship with God is a gift – given freely by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

This is the next part in sharing our testimony, “Then Jesus…”

Think for a money how God intervened in your life.  How did you first encounter Jesus?  How did you first come to church?  How did you make the decision to surrender your life to Jesus?

“Then Jesus… spoke to my heart from a message I heard in church one weekend…”

“Then Jesus… stirred within me when my prayer was answered.”

“Then Jesus… came alive as a friend told me her story of faith.”

“Then Jesus… stirred in my heart as I read the Bible.”

What is your story?  How did Jesus reach your heart?  Was it through a friend, a family member, a classmate, a preacher, a prayer or the Bible?  How did Jesus story intersect with your life?

Lord Jesus, Thank You that You initiated a relationship with me – not so I could boast, but because You are good.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
