Growing in Your Acquaintance of Jesus (Part II) – John 4 – By Ty Tamasaka

Growing in Your Acquaintance of Jesus

growing in acquaintance of jesus

28 Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, 29 “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?” 30 They came out of the town and made their way toward him.”  John 4:28-30 NIV

39 Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.” 40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days. 41 And because of his words many more became believers.

42 They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”  John 4:39-42 NIV

The woman’s acquaintance and understanding of Jesus increased over her time with Him.  Who is Jesus to you?  It is likely that as you increase your acquaintance with Him, Jesus goes through one of these categories.  The Samaritan woman referred to Jesus as:

1 – Jew (verse 9) – Initially Jesus was just a Jewish man who showed her attention.   Is Jesus just a good Jewish man to you?

2 – Sir (verse 15) – He then became a person she respected because of His giving and accepting spirit.  Is Jesus a respected Jewish man to you?

3 – Prophet (verse 19) – She perceives Him as a prophet when He reveals insight into her life that He could not have otherwise known.  Is Jesus a wise prophet who shared good teaching to you?

4 – Messiah (verse 29) – When Jesus reveals Himself as Messiah, she acknowledges Him as Messiah.  Is Jesus the Anointed One, the Messiah, to you?

5 – Savior of the world (verse 42) – When she told others about Him, they came to Jesus and saw Him as the Savior of the world.

How do you see Jesus?  Is He just a good Jewish man to you?  Is He a respected person?  Is He a prophet that taught good and helpful teaching?  Is He the Messiah?  Is He the Savior of the world?

When she recognized Jesus as Messiah, the Samaritan woman goes to town and proclaims the Gospel to any who would listen.

As she proclaims Him, she begins to see Him as the Savior of the world.  When people are saved, we in turn become evangelists.

When a person is saved, they in turn become evangelists!

Lord Jesus reveal more of Yourself to me.  I know You Lord.  I want to know You more.  In the awesome name of Jesus Christ, amen.
