3 Keys to Successful Ministry – Part II

Then Daniel praised the God of heaven 20 and said:

“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever;
wisdom and power are his.
21
He changes times and seasons;
he deposes kings and raises up others.
He gives wisdom to the wise
and knowledge to the discerning.
22
He reveals deep and hidden things;
he knows what lies in darkness,
and light dwells with him.
23 I thank and praise you, God of my ancestors:
You have given me wisdom and power,
you have made known to me what we asked of you,
you have made known to us the dream of the king.
Daniel 2:20-23 NIV (emphasis mine)

In today’s passage we explore the second key to successful ministry that we see in Daniel 2.  This is something that resonates deeply in me.

KEY 2

2 – Praise God for His PROMISES, BEFORE His BLESSINGS.

Then Daniel praised the God of heaven 20 and said:

“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever;
wisdom and power are his.
21
He changes times and seasons;
he deposes kings and raises up others.
He gives wisdom to the wise
and knowledge to the discerning.
22
He reveals deep and hidden things;
he knows what lies in darkness,
and light dwells with him.
23 I thank and praise you, God of my ancestors:
You have given me wisdom and power,
you have made known to me what we asked of you,
you have made known to us the dream of the king.
Daniel 2:20-23 NIV (emphasis mine)

We aren’t sure how God revealed the vision to Daniel, but we know He did.  It may have been in a dream, a vision or a supernatural vision.  However God spoke, we can see that Daniel praised God BEFORE received the blessing.

Daniel praises God for His power and might.  Daniel recognizes that God is mightier than King Nebuchadnezzar.  He praises God for His communicating with man.  Daniel was grateful that God didn’t’ stay silent, but revealed His great knowledge.

This is a very telling and important point.  Daniel praised God BEFORE the message was confirmed.  Daniel praised God before the message was even confirmed with Nebuchadnezzar!

If I were Daniel, I would likely be troubled throughout the night questioning if the vision was really from God.  I would be glad to give God all the praise AFTER I seen Nebuchadnezzar and the vision was confirmed.

It takes far greater faith to praise God when the promise is given, RATHER than when it is received.   I like to praise God AFTER He does something great.  I like to say, “Don’t you see, God is good because He did…”   Daniel praised God not because of what He did, but because of what He revealed!

Daniel teaches us to praise God for His promises, not just His blessings.  If we don’t praise God until the answers are given, we really don’t have much faith.  We can see that Daniel had great faith because He praised God when the promises were given!

When God revealed the vision to Daniel, Daniel and his friends give praise to God.

Lord I believe… help my unbelief.
